About this role:
Crystal Palace FC is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our Security team. This role is fundamental to ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of all individuals within the stadium during matchdays and events. The Safety Officer holds responsibility for the delivery of spectator safety operations, providing leadership from the Control Room and throughout the Stadium, and ensuring compliance with the Stadium Safety Certificate, relevant legislation, and Local Authority requirements.
The role requires a proactive, authoritative, and professional approach to safety management, along with flexibility to work both weekdays and weekends in line with the match and event calendar.
Responsibilities:
Working as the Safety Officer, providing leadership and direction from the Control Room and across the stands.
Managing the coordination of stewarding and security personnel across all stands and entry points, ensuring safe crowd movement and full adherence to safety protocols.
Reviewing all stewarding arrangements and making appropriate recommendations to the Club to ensure compliance with the Safety Certificate and best practice.
Responsible for briefing all Stand Managers on matchdays.
Evaluating the performance of Stand Managers, Senior Stewards, Stewards, and any specialist stewards, initiating remedial or corrective action where required.
Inspecting stands prior to matchdays to confirm they are fully operational, compliant, and safe for all spectators and visitors.
Ensuring all medical support services and first aid rooms are fully staffed, equipped, and operational for matchdays.
Working as the Matchday Safety Officer from the Control Room and managing all safety-related issues and incidents in compliance with Local Authority and Safety Certificate requirements.
Monitoring stewarding levels throughout matchdays to ensure effective and equitable deployment of staff in line with the Safety Certificate.
Other duties and responsibilities as required by line manager.
Upholding and promoting the Club’s policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies and procedures.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
NVQ Level 4 in Spectator Safety Management or equivalent.
Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a large stadium or event venue.
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
In-depth knowledge of safety and security regulations and best practices.
Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure, with excellent problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in the use of security technology, including surveillance systems and communication tools.
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required.
A strong commitment to upholding safety standards and ensuring the smooth and secure operation of all club activities and events.
